The Country Club of Columbus is a Beautiful and Historic Golf Club and Clubhouse featured in central Columbus, GA

COLUMBUS, Ga. — In the heart of Columbus, tucked away in beautiful Midtown on Cherokee Avenue, sits one of Columbus’ true hidden gems: the Country Club of Columbus (CCC). If you love a spot that blends Southern charm, world-class recreation, and deep-rooted tradition like we do, this place feels like coming home to history itself.
Let’s go back to where it all began. Chartered in 1909, the Country Club of Columbus has been a cornerstone of our community for over 115 years. At The CCC’s conception, the city was still finding its footing in the early 20th century, with unpaved roads and a growing sense of Southern elegance. The Country Club’s very first clubhouse was a charming log cabin—simple, sturdy, and full of that pioneer spirit that built Columbus. (Tragically, it burned in 1919, but the club rose stronger from those ashes, just as our resilient town always has.) By 1925, legendary architect Donald Ross had designed what would become one of the Southeast’s most celebrated golf courses, a strategic masterpiece that’s stood the test of time. The CCC has honored its past while evolving with the times—renovated in 2002 using Ross’s original plans and sketches to restore those classic bunkers, undulating greens, and natural contours lined with stately pines and live oaks. It’s not just a golf course; it’s a living piece of Columbus history, where every fairway whispers stories of generations past.
What makes the CCC stand out from others is the club’s golf legacy. It’s been the proud home of the prestigious Southeastern Amateur since 1922—a tournament that’s drawn top talent for over a century. The club houses the Haskins Foundation, which administers the Haskins Award, the highest honor in men’s collegiate golf. Named for Fred Haskins, the beloved former teaching-pro, right here at the club, it celebrates not just skill but character—values that feel so quintessential to Columbus. Additionally, GSGA Hall of Famers are tied to the club, among them are legends like Larry Mize (yes, the 1987 Masters champion who grew up in our backyard!), Russell Henley, Ben Carr, and so many more!
The course itself is a regulation style, 18 Hole, 6,515-yard, par-71 test of precision over power—small greens, masterful bunkering, and TifEagle Bermuda perfection year-round. But the Country Club of Columbus isn’t just about golf. It’s a fully encompassing community with amenities that make every visit feel like a mini-vacation in your own backyard. There’s the newly reimagined Pool & Pavilion—resort-style lounging, poolside service, family swims, and seasonal events that keep the kids busy during the summer. The fitness center is top-tier, with expert trainers and classes for every level, whether you’re powering through a solo session or want to join a group. Top-notch facilities for tennis and pickle-ball are keeping the active Southern lifestyle alive. Thoughtfully crafted menus blend classic Southern flavors with modern twists— featuring highlights like weekday patio lunches, elegant evening dinners, theme nights, live entertainment, holiday celebrations, and cocktail hours that turn into the best community gatherings. It’s the kind of place where friendships deepen over sweet tea, cocktails and stories, a Columbus tradition that’s held the city together through thick and thin.
FUN FACT: Scenes from Bo Bartlett’s Film, Things Don’t Stay Fixed, were recorded right here in Columbus at the CCC.
Living in Columbus means cherishing the history that connect us all—the club’s commitment to preservation, its role in community events, and the way it welcomes every generation are so appreciated by all who have had the pleasure of visiting. Whether you’re a longtime member or dreaming of joining, the Country Club of Columbus feels like an extension of what makes our city so amazing: warmth, excellence, and a deep respect for where we’ve come from.
